Fun Bridal Shower Themes & Ideas

A really great bridal shower becomes more than the sum of its parts; it gets everyone engaged and involved in that way that only really awesome parties can. Fun bridal shower themes are a huge part of most successful showers, and there are themes available to fit literally any niche. Here are some of the best ones.

1. Gourmet Cooking

Perfect for brides who love food or those who need to learn their way around the kitchen, the gourmet cooking shower consists of having a professional chef teach the guests how to make a quick dish, such as appetizers. If you’re willing to do a little legwork, you can probably find a chef from a local restaurant who would be available for the shower at a reasonable price.  If there will be older guests at the shower, consider setting up a few tables with chairs so they can rest during the cooking demonstration. Most cooking demonstrations require the audience to stand throughout and may be taxing for older guests.

2. Wine Tasting

One of the most fun bridal shower themes ever, wine tasting is not exactly what you might expect. Yes, you’ll be tasting wine, but more importantly, you’ll be taught how to taste wine by a professional sommelier. If you really want to make it special, choose wines that reflect a theme, such as the birth years of the couple, or the year in which they met.  Another option is to select wines from where the couple will be honeymooning. This is a great shower theme for brides who love wine, and it works much better if the party will be fairly small.  Larger parties simply require too many bottles for everyone to properly taste each type.  Keep in mind that some guests may imbibe too much; if this is the case, you need to have a plan for providing either lodging for the night or safe transport home.

3. Being Charitable

This variation of a traditional shower involves the guests giving donations to the charity of the bride’s choice, rather than bringing gifts for the bride and groom. These donations can be canned goods, gently-used clothing, cash or household goods. This is one of the better options for couples who have already been living together because they typically already have most or all of the items they need for their household. Charitable showers may not seem like a big deal, but they are a great way to provide large donations to a worthy cause.

4. Honeymoon Prep

Another of the most fun bridal shower themes involves helping the couple get ready for their honeymoon. With a decorating emphasis on their destination, a honeymoon prep shower can be risqué, raucous, fun and fanciful. From massage certificates at their hotel’s spa to romantic dinners for two at local restaurants, the gift options are endless. For the blushing bride, sexy lingerie and adult-themed gifts can be especially fun (avoid this if there will be easily-offended or embarrassed guests in attendance). This type of shower works great for the bride who’s very excited about her upcoming honeymoon and it’s especially helpful for couples who are paying their own honeymoon costs.

5. Pot Luck

By the time she gets married, nearly every bride knows her way around the kitchen, at least a little. The concept of the potluck theme is that each guest gets involved by bringing their favorite dish and its recipe on a recipe card; collect them all into a recipe box for the bride. Alternatively, the recipes can be collected before the shower and compiled in a bridal shower cookbook. It’s one of the more laid-back and fun bridal shower themes, especially as it means the hostess won’t have to take care of all the food! It works best for smaller groups and is the perfect shower theme for brides who can already cook, as well as those who still need to learn. One drawback of planning this type of shower is that some of the guests may underestimate how much food they need to make, so be prepared with some extras to fill in.  It’s better to have leftovers than to run out of food.
